How People are Spending
Improved consumer confidence and the lowest unemployment rate in the United States since 2008 means that Americans are spending more.
In fact, total sales are expected to increase by about 22 percent over the next five years, according to the American Lifestyles 2015 report by Mintel . The leisure travel and dining out categories are forecast to rise 27 percent in the next five years.
Spending on communications and technology has increased every year since 2009. This trend is expected to continue at a 26 percent growth rate through 2019. Analysts say consumers continue to be interested in acquiring the latest smartphones, wearable devices, 4K resolution televisions, and other advanced media technology.
